Weatherhaven welcomes $130 million contract award from Canadian Department of National Defence

British Columbia company to benefit from MSVS Baseline Shelter Program

Burnaby, BC (August 12, 2009) Weatherhaven is pleased to announce that a substantial portion of the $130 million Medium Support Vehicle Systems (MSVS) contract will be designed and manufactured at its facilities in British Columbia. The announcement was made yesterday by the Minister of National Defence in Miramichi, New Brunswick.

Weatherhaven and its teaming partner DEW Engineering and Development ULC (the Prime Contractor) were awarded this four-year contract to build 895 baseline shelter units to support the MSVS Program. The contract consists of engineering data and integrated logistics support, including an option to buy up to 110 more shelters.

Under the terms of the teaming agreement between DEW and Weatherhaven, approximately $60 million of this contract will be performed in British Columbia by Weatherhaven and its network of locally-based suppliers. The scope and schedule of this manufacturing effort is expected to lead to the creation of more than 80 direct jobs in British Columbia, including the necessity for Weatherhaven to establish an additional manufacturing facility in the Lower Mainland to handle this demand.

“This program is an exciting step forward for Weatherhaven and its suppliers in British Columbia,” said Ray Castelli, Chief Executive Officer of Weatherhaven. “Not only will this program provide better equipment for our troops, but it is also a clear example of how the Canada First Defence Policy can provide a major stimulus to the manufacturing sector in British Columbia.”

The baseline shelters are being purchased for use with the militarized commercial off-the-shelf vehicles and standard military pattern vehicles. They will be produced in five variants and will be specially equipped as part of the MSVS project, which is providing replacements for the current DND fleet of medium logistics trucks and ancillaries.
